Question BA XR6 excessive heat from RH Rear....

Anyone know anything about excessive heat from the right hand rear of BA? I recently did a 6 hour trip and the heat generated melted the plastic on a golfball next to the sparewheel (against the steel under the mat). I have noticed a warning sign about excessive heat may be present after towing for an extended period of time (I did have a boot full of gear). On shorter trips there seems to be a bit of heat radiating from the RH rear wheel.
Is this from the exaust which is tucked into the same area or do I have a problem?? Thanks for your help.

its from the exhaust muffler that is huge and right under the floor area that your talking about. You should try it when the car is fully loaded and towing a trailer, then its hot. During development we had all sorts of problems with the heat. Just make sure its got the silver matting on the underneath of the spare wheel tub. Don't worry about the heat though, just don't put things under the carpet!!

Thanks for your reply, I guess the huge exhaust muffler is there to meet emmision regulations. Sounds as if I have a good excuse to put a straight through pipe on!
Cheers

can i ask why the golf ball was under the carpet? lol sorry not having a dig but just wondering
If it has the heat shield like harasn says, but its still too hot for your liking, most automotive suppliers sell heat shielding by the metre...add another layer under that section of carpet and she'll be right :)

And this would have the added bonus oof making the rear of the car abit quieter! Sounds like a good idea. Line the whole boot around the wheel arches and the base of the "C" pillars and it would be very quiet and cool! Thats the trouble with falcons being cheap compared to Euro cars is that they don't speend the money in these areas to keep them cheaper.
