best petrol to use??

I was just curious as to which is the best 'premium' unleaded petrol to use out of Caltex vortex, BP ultimate, Mobile premium unleaded, and Shell optimax?

I heard BP ultimate is pretty good (highest octane level)

Re: best petrol to use??

Mobil Synergy 8000, Shell Optimax, and BP Ultimate are all 98 RON, and are the best of the bunch.
Caltex Vortex is only 95 RON, so really isn't in the running.

I mainly use BP Ultimate, though I can't say I notice a difference from any of the above 3.
It does detonate on Vortex and anything below that however.

Re: best petrol to use??

thanks heaps for that!

i got this from the website, sounds pretty good to me!

More power

Up to 8.3% increase in power compared to a car using regular unleaded fuel

Up to 6.9% increase in acceleration compared to a car using regular unleaded fuel

Using BP Ultimate is like driving a car with a bigger engine

Only if the car has a far bit of compression and a knock sensor. Otherwise higher octane will reduce power.

The knock sensor has no relevance in regards to producing power.

Why would it reduce power? I thought it would just not give any advantage.

Re: best petrol to use??

The chemistry behind petrol and its bearing on engines can be quite complex. Here's a link that should provide some valuable insight.
