I know you guys have an issue on the colour of an EA being yellow and making it look like a taxi...

but Yellow Cabs have that orange/yellow colour mix. It's nothing compared to yellow. The yellow police car shown in the pictures section of this site a few months ago (I think it has been deleted..) it looked crappy... but it was off yellow and the bumpers didn't come in contrast with the rest of the body so the bumpers needed to be yellow.

Since I am getting a bodykit, yellow extended bumpers will come in contrast with the rest of the body being yellow.

What kind of yellow colour mix would be good for the EA so it doesn't look like a Taxi? There are many different shades of yellow... is Ferrari yellow the go?

I intend to keep my EA for a further 10-15 years so it's worth doing a few changes to satisfy me :D

Reply me with your opinions

I agree, that yellow shade from the Holden Monaro looks nice too. Like as I said before, bodykit front and rear bumpers painted in yellow will come in contrast with the body. I can imagine it looking better than red.

If you want bright yellow then go for it. I reckon if you throw some metallic into it & or a pearl, it will greatly improve the color.

If you go down to an automotive paint specialist you can ask them to mix up some color samples for ya. They can do some freaky things with pearls etc, so go have a chat to them.

I have never heard of metallic yellow before...

What does metallic paint actually do? (To bright yellow paint)

I am planning on just spraying a coat of clear lacquer on top of yellow.

As for pearls... I'm not a fan of that. Costs heaps. :D

Metallic = Little metal flakes inside paint, available in different sizes and colors. I have silver and gold flakes in mine, I went for "Hi-Sparkle", looks nice in the sun.

As for pearls, since you are going to put a clear over the yellow, it would probably only bump the price up by about $50 per liter (2 pack), depending on class the paint comes in(how much pearl).

Have you ever heard of metallic white??
A car sprayed with this won best paint job at Melb Auto Saloon 2001. Even better then air brushing and wildfire crap.

Paint can get very interesting, and you don’t have to spend big bucks to get a fantastic color.
If you are in melb. I can give u the number of a guy who is pretty damm good.

Thanks for the info Bass...

I'd like to see a sample of metallic bright yellow... might take that into consideration. I'll be ready when I have the bucks ready.

Would it be a hassle to strip the car down? I want every area of paint stripped inside and out and spraypainted.

Would it cause any big problems?

I live in Brisbane... seems like you Melby's have a lot of EA's :D

Stripping it down.

Phil, I did mine myself, and it took 3 months to complete the re-spray process. This was a full bare metal job, remembering that the body of the car was almost perfect(besides a dint on door) to begin with.

It all depends on how fussy you are, how much time you wan't to spend on it, and mostly, the $$$ issue.

Oh, and that reminds me. The first color I would play with if I were doing ur car would be bright yellow basecoat with a few layers of green pearl over the top. This should turn some heads!

Good luck!

spraypainting

Hey Bass

What did you use to strip down the paint on your EA for the bare metal job? What do you call that chemical that actually eats away paint in minutes?... it causes a chemical reaction to the paint that makes it peel away. Did you use sand blasting as well?

Could that chemical stripper and sandpaper do the trick to bring everything to bare metal? (Including the interior)

Lucky you only had one dent in one of your doors! I have one big dent (from the previous owner) and one rusted out problem (about 3cm in diameter) on the wheel bay area just under the rear left door. I should get that repaired by a panel beater before beginning a complete paint job.

But by concluding this, you did a really great job on your EA Bass!

Re: spraypainting

My question to Bass is this: how and where did you get the skills to do your paintwork? I'd love to do what you've done but wouldn't know where to begin...
