Ok I noticed that sometimes the speedo on my instrument cluster doesn't move when I accelarate untill about 40kmh and then it resumes normal operation.

It works below 40kmh if you are slowing down, but not if you have come to a complete stop and start moving again.

Is there something totally wrong with my car, or is it like a cable or gear somewhere that is playing up???

mine sometimes does this but with my tacho. I will start the car and it will sit on 0-RPM then i can take off and it wont move till i get to about 30-40kms, then it jumps into position, or I can just tap the dash and it will resume normal operation from idle. Only does it on first start up.

Maybe the needle is sticking, its wet and cold in brissy at the moment. Only noticed it on wet days too...

My old XF did this before the speedo died altogether.

A new speedo sender may be in your future...

hmm sounds like a problem but what could it be, if it was me take out the cluster, check it all out.

Or better yet - take it to Ford, and tuse my warrenty (for the 5th time !!) and tell em to fix it. Its covered under electronics

mine did it, and the needle was pushed to far on, so it had to much resistance to move, when the speed got up enough, it eventually unstuck... or i could tap it.

just an idea.

I recon you might be right steve. It behaves that way, and doesn't always get stuck.
