Broom Broom Cought Splat STALL!!! What The??

Hi guys

The last few times ive started my car its stalled on me. When I start it now I have to press the accellerator down a bit or else it stalls. I have also noticed the Idle is a bit irrational when u first start the car, If I dont slightly press the accellerator, the car will rev up to 1100 rpm, then back to 100 rpm( almost stalling), then upto 1100, back to 100, up to 1100, back to 100 then Stall :(
If not it will rev to 1100 back to 100, up to 900, down to 200 up to 800, down to 200 then it will idle roughly at about 300 rpm. Any ideas what the problem is? The ISC looks ok and I have just put on new plugs and leads.
Also the Voltage meter jumps up and down eraticly now :(

Did the problem happen immidiately after changing plugs and leads, what plugs did you use...
I recommend using only NGK's

It could be time for a new TPS and while your at it, adjust the base idle.
TPS are around 24 - 27 $ from ford, and easy as to replace, just 2 screws on the throttle body, and one wiring connector.

If you are unsure if it is definately the tps, just disconnect it and start the car up, you may find that the problem goes away.

To adjust base idle, disconnect the isc and wind in the throttle stop screw until it sits on 600 - 700 rpm.

The voltmeter is no issue, its just that the alternator is spinning so slowly that the regulator is dropping out...

Regards

yeah 99% probability your base idle is too low - wind the idle stop screw in a few turns like 9psi said and the problem should go away...

If it was idling ok and has just started going crook then don't rush into buggering with the Base Idle (it doesn't just de-adjust itself).

As the guys have said - did this start after doing some work?

Have a very good look around for electrical connectors knocked off or not on properly - ie. the coolant sensor plug (on the thermostat housing) - did you bump one of them when working. Also look for vacuum lines that have come off or are broken.

I had the same problem which I fixed last night. It ended up being a bad earth on one of the battery connectors. I don't know which one because I rewired the whole battery terminals and fuseable links. Idle problems are usually to do with vacuum or earthing problems.
