i have a 2001 f150 supercrew my problem is an annoying noise behind the glove box.it only does it when the truck is at an idle and under load&once and awhile it will switch to the defroster vent all on its own

it must be a relay or a blend door motor i'd guess. i would get the glovebox etc out of the way and try to pinpoint the noise.

Hi mate
You could have a vacuum leak. The default position for the air distribution system when there's no vacuum is the windscreen. See if it changes to this position when you accelerate hard (which is the moment when you have less engine vacuum), if this happens and the noise you hear is a hissing then you'll know for sure.

i cant hear a hissing noise but when i accelerate hard it does go to the defrost it buzzes when i shut the truck off it sounds like a baby groaning

You could have 2 separate problems there. There is definitely a vacuum leak that you need to find and repair, and I would start by looking at the vacuum lines on the engine side. If these are ok, check the connectors and hoses that go through the firewall and then the back of the switches. The buzzing noise could also be a faulty relay or solenoid. Don't assume that the noise is coming from inside the car unless you're 100% sure, it could also be coming from the engine bay and travelling through the firewall. By the way, which engine do you have in your truck?
