The first and easiest test that i would try is to remove the passenger side front door interior lock Button.
If these have been taken out at some time, then they can "Catch" on the door Trim when Locking, hence not allowing the Door to lock correctly.

Easiest way to remove the button is to use some pliers, with a rag wrapped around the Metal grips so as it doesnt scratch the button.

If the problem still exists with the Button removed, then you may need to change the Door lock solenoid.

Hope this helps

I have an EF Gli which has had this problem before. Like the other reponse you received, I would also suggest you also remove the snipper button to check if this fixes the problem. If so, then when you replace it, make sure that you have your window wound down, shut the door and lock the door with your key, making sure that the key cannot turn any further. Replace the snipper button (make sure that the white plastic insert in the snipper button is in the fully up, or released position - this enables the snipper button to fit easily, without force onto the snipper rod) Push down on the button firmly which will ensure that the snipper button will "lock or latch" on to the rod in the correct position.
Good luck!
