Yeah i use to use the green ford radiator fluid since then i changed to the red stuff (thinking that since it costs more and the specs say that it's better).
But now i'm weirry about the red stuff as theres been discussion that the red stuff will eff the engine. So far nothings gone wrong with mine but as a precautionary measure i'm thinkin of converting back to the green stuff soon.
My question is, will the entire radiator fluid drainout from teh engine and radiator by undoing the bottom radiator hose thus without the need to flush the system or will i have to undo the thermostate housing and flush the entire system to get rid of the red fluid.
Mate, if you choose to take off the bottom radiator hose. I say good luck. It can be an absolute bastard to get off.
Recently when i flushed my system and i already had the bottom hose off i stuck a garden hose in the water pump, and that seemed to do a pretty good job.
Now reguarding the red fluid. When i first got the XH it had this cr@p in it. While i was flushing the system i took the filler bottle thing off and tried to clean the residue the red cr@p left in it off. I tried everything short of sulphuric acid and to this day my bottle looks red/brown with a green tinge .
I think I read somewhere that the red stuff has an additive in it which, if you ever blow a head gasket etc it reacts with the coolant changing it to a different colour...... OR was this another type of coolant?
Cheers

XH, when your flushing the radiator fluid out, don't you have to undo the thermostate housing. If not the water will flow back out of where you placed the hose in the water pump.

Well really if possible i don't want to undo the thermostate housing as long as i know that by undoing the bottom hose all the fluid from the radiator and engine will comeout.
XH, i know exactly what you mean about the bottom hose being a prick to get off, i spend hours trying to get it off a while back. Even mechanics ended up cutting the hose to get it off, i guess it's a good excuse to get a new hose. What i'll do is pulloff the electric fans to make it easier to undo the bottom hose.
You dont need to remove the bottom hose to drain coolant on most falcons.
There is a small plastic bung in the bottom of the radiator, located on the drivers side of the radiator. To get to it, get under the car and put a 13mm socket into one of the holes in the crossmember and undo the bung.
On the end of the bung there is a small steel clip which is moulded into the bung. The idea of this is to hold the bung in the radiator, so it doesnt fall out and get lost in the crossmember!
Make sure you refit the bung before putting in coolant. and you only need to nip the bung up. DONT DO IT UP TOO TIGHT OR IT WILL SNAP THE HEAD OF THE BUNG OFF!:s6:
Good to hear I'm not the only one that had troubles getting bottom hose off.
I disconnect top heater hose and back flush a few times over a couple of days with a few hot runing cycles to get the whole system flushed.AS well as bottom rad hose..
