Chiptorque...worth it?

Looking at the HP2 chiptorque for a CFI 3.9L Ea 3 speed..
the guy reckons that with JUST the chip I can expect a 4kw gain at the wheels...and a further 6kw with an exhaust and extractors
Thats a total of 10kw's more at the wheels....is that worth the money considering they want $600 for the chip alone?
How many kw's did the EA's have standard at the wheels?
what would 10kw at the wheels work out to be at the flywheel?

hmmm.... yes and no... James is right, get the MPI conversion done... but by no means rule out the chip. Look at the dyno graph for the MPI version... there is a 20 Kw gain in the HP3 pakage... So id still get the chip coz they will reprogram the chip when u get the MPI conversion... But if funds r limited... Do the conversion 1st :)

Id go the MPI conversion first.
You could probly get all the parts from the wrecker and do it yourself for under $200!

Youve already made the MPI conversion easier for yourself by going to 3 speed.

'd spend the money on going to mpfi $200 (do work your self)and getting an exhaust 21/2 manderl bent with single staight through muffler $300. after that cam $450 and after that chip $600. for under $1600 u'd have 180kw minimum at the fly wheel and peel of low 15 sec passes at the drags
SO GET TO IT.

Low 15's out of a 3 speed, with standard gears, exhaust, chip and cam... did I miss something here?

Chips are good

Chips are good if they are used to complement the rest of the package.The boys at ChipTorque know their stuff and the figures they quote are true but the motor is still basically standard and its a CFI remember.If I were you do the exhaust including extractors 5 speed conversion and better set of diff gears 3.45 or 3.23:1.See what you think of that,then maybe the MPI conversion afterwards or MPI conversion before diff gears.Then when you have some more money head work and cam +chip.You will really notice the difference then.

Once you have payed your $600 which includes dyno time from memory every mod after that can be customed tuned to suit the chip like Brent said.All you pay for is dyno time.They do have a 14 day money back gurantee if you are not happy.

Standard a MPI has around the 80-88KW mark.CFI has about 65Kw-75KW I think.At the end of the day 10kw gain isnt' to bad either.
