I have a few questions reguarding the operation of the climate control system. Does the manual temp slide switch control the amount of hot air entering the cabin? Is this what they call the blend flap? So too get hot air into the cabin, the vacuum opens the heater tap which allows hot water into the heater and then the flap controls how much air flows thru the heater core? So if i were too install the climate control system into a GL, i would have to replace the heater box or else i wouldnt have any heating from the system? So my main Q. is that the blend flap motor controls only the amount of heat entering the cabin? Obviously there is a motor controlling the automatic version....how is it different from the GL version? The reason im asking is coz i can get all the parts too do the conversion for next to nothing.. (console, sensors, wiring looms, control solenoids, fan controller, etc)
SPhell, do u have any diagrams from that book you got the cruise control stuff from?? Btw.. i got my cruise working, thanks for all the info!
the motor for the blend flap on an auto climate car is on the firewall side of the heater box. meaning you have to take the heater box OUT in order to fit the motor. thats too big of a job for me, even though i really do want ECC.
the manual version uses a cable to control the door (flap), which can be seen behind the glove box.
Hey jason, ive been thinking about this and it may not be nessasary too remove the heater box at all...
Think about how the manual flap works... by cable.
What if you mount the flap motor from the auto climate control somewhere else under the dash and have the cable connect too it somehow... this could work as an actuator for the blend flap. Im not sure exactly how the electric motor works but i assume its similar to the way the CFI idle motor works... what are your thoughts on this? If this was too work then the only other problem i think would be installing the evaporator sensor. Im guessing that the fan speed controller is externally mounted too..
fan speed is accessable from the front. take out your glove box and grab a look.. its only like 2 phillips heads.
as for the blend door - i dont have access to the motor itself on my brothers car, so i dont know... i dont know about fitting the motor elsewhere though, as im pretty sure the motor assembly would directly drive the hinge of the blend flap. meaning itd be hard to work something onto the motor assembly to do that... but im all up for ideas, itd be the best mod i can think of doing to my EAs interior.
Either way, there would have too be a way around it, the flap itself doesnt take much effort to move... I think i might give it a bash and see what happens... even if it doesnt work on fully automatic, it will still look better than the shitty old fashioned slide switches@!
