I have develop, well after a brake repad, a clunk, brakes have about 10000km on them since the pad change, and now as I back out of the drive way and apply the brake I get a clunk, and the first press of the pedal going forward the same noise, it actually sounds like the ABS letting go like it does but I'm no where near that fast or locked up, I put it down to wearing pads but the old ones never did it, any ideas. and does anyone know how I, myself can bleed my own brakes, bear in mind it's abs, I am told by the ford guys, they are the only one who can do it cos they are the only one with the gear. I'm a little sceptical as I am a qualified diesel fitter and aircraft tech, but any brake mob I have spoken to don't want to know me.
Martin is right, they are bled as per normal procedures.
I think you're clunk is more than likely the pads moving slightly in the caliper. We use Anti Squeel whenever we do pad changes at work, it helps lock the pads into the calipers which stops them moving. Do they squeek aswell???
they only squeek on occasion, but the clunk is ever time I reverse and brake then go forward and brake, and only on the left hand side, interesting on the bleeding bit, guess I'll be putting the DBA rotors and pads on myself after all!
I had the same problem in my XF , it was the brake pads moving back and forth , the springs ose their tension , so when u go from backwards to forwards they clunk against the caliper.
the reason dealers say they are the only ones that can blead abs systems is if you get air in the abs unit it can stuff it and void the warranty.
the actual process of bleading however, is exactly the same, although a little more care should be taken. if you do get air in the abs unit it is a bugger to get out and should not be used untill it is free of air.
