Cold air intake for 4 l ED

I can't find an off the shelf upgrade to the 4 lt ED cold air intake. SVO and Herods don't have one. The standard intake is so puny, but there is lots of space for a wide/thicker intake at the front of the bonnet. Any ideas??

Intake..

One of the best ones i've seen was on an EL XR8 (i think) which had a bonnet scoop converted into the intake. When the bonnet was down the scoop had a surround that formed part of the airbox. I don't know it goes in the rain though...

Paul Romano owned the falcon - I can get better details when I go back home in a few days...

Dan..

air intake

on the ford forums website they recommend putting a new tuckford series air lid cover on in place of the old one. The opening is much bigger and better. Thay say u can get them from ford for only $27 and it bolts right on.

Re: air intake

I have been reading up on the EF/L series Air box units and apparently the EF has a higher flow rate then the EL.
The apparent reason for this was because the main focus of the EL desing was noise reduction. So if your thinking of a newer air box, you might want to grab the EF, rather then the EL. Another point raised was that the T series snorkel had a much better flow.

A while back, mainly after I did a few engine mods, I noticed that when I had the bonnet open, the cars idle would be fine, but when I put it down, it ran rough. This was with the standard air box.
I then took to the air scoop on the radiator fan shroud with a heat gun, and made it's opening bigger. This fixed the problem, and I'm assuming it increased the flow.

The best way by far to get some extra air into the donk would be to use a cone filter. Get one with a cover that allows you to plug in a cold air pipe. Cut a hole in the side of the bay (Under where the air box would normally sit, and run a cold air pipe to the frot of the car. NOW THATS WHAT I CALL COLD AIR!!

Oh, and yes, cold air does make a difference for anyone who is wondering.

Filter

Thanks guys.
For some reason half of my last reply dropped out.
The ED filter is rectangular-I have a K&N replacement for the paper element. Will check out the larger snorkel.

No luck- the ED XR used the standard unit.
