The is an extra section spot welded onto the trans tunnel of the floor shift models where the shifter comes through the floor. If you remove the consol from your XF & XE you will see what I mean. You could get away without this but it will make mouting the first rubber boot a bit tricky. You could cut one out of another car and weld or even bolt it in.
When I changed my XE from a 4.1 to a 5.8 I also moved the shifter to the floor. You'll need to replace the steering column, I bought one out of a XF for the XF leavers. At the same time I replaced carpet, So I junked the centre console and mounted a MEGA shifter to the floor. I found this would be easier than getting a transmission hump and linkages...
You don't have to change the steering column you can just knock the roll pin out of the selector, but it doesn't look so good, the column is a 15 minute job to replace and I got one from the wreckers for my XE for 50 bucks complete with wheel, ignition and key for it!!!
