you mean pull it out and not have it at all, or pull it out and replace it?
when you look at the water reservior under the bonnet is the level up to the "MAX" mark? the light only comes on if the coolant level is too low.
when looking at the reservior you should see a hole in the side with two wires coming out of it (on the side thats more towards the engine) that is the level sensor.
you should be able to get a set of needle-nose pliers or a large flat blade screwdriver and remove it (anticlockwise rotation) you will loose a bit of coolant too.
just put a new one in the same way you pulled the other one out, but you may be able to just clean the old one and re-fit it and it will work.
