Well after doing some work on the falcon it has come to my attention that I need to renew some parts and need to know there names
1) There is a sensor thing on the thermostat housing with 2 vacuum hoses coming off it. Whats this called?
2) I've taken the block thing off that holds the thermostat and all the sensors on it. Is this just called a thermostat housing? I need a new gasket for it as it was leaking.
3) Also I need to renew the top part that the top radiator hose connects too, whats this bit called?
Thanks if you can help

Without the manual handy I think this is the cold start vacum control, it activates/diactivates the air selector in the air intake to pull air off the exhaust by monitoring coolant temp

This is the Lower half of the thermostat housing

This is the top half of the thermostat housing but is commonly just called the thermostat housing
easiest way take the bits to the auto shop with you

No it's for the heater control I believe. It's turns the water flow to the heater core in your car on and off. Definately not to do with controlling intake temperature(??)
Ask for the vacuum valve for the thermostat housing, they should know what you mean.
Close but that bit with two vacuum hoses is the air conditioning PVS valve. Its function is to change the air con mode from fresh to recirculation when engine overheating appears imminent while the air conditioner is on. This reduces compressor load and helps engine cooling. What does PVS stand for? Ported Vacuum Switch.
Well all I can say is be damn carefull with those PVS valves, they want $110 for a brand new one. Took a while for them to work out what it was aswell, guess I'll be taking a trip to the wreckers on the weekend

I was just looking at the pics of your EA, nice car. One question I have did you remove the battery cover (the plastic one with the snorkal) for the shoot or all together ?
If you have removed it I would suggest replacing it as there where some instances of EA's cooking batteries (read exploding) due to over heating hence the addition of the battery enclosure to feed cold air on to it
My ea doesnt have anything covering the battery (?)
I was wondering why the rubber attached to the under-bonnet tapered in on the battery side just like the induction snorkel section....I though it was to feed air but I couldnt figure out to what.....obviously my battery cover has been taken off

Hey Aussie Blue, Could yu tell us where the vacumn hoses actually go? When I did the CFI to MPI conversion i didnt take notice how the hoses were run. Theres 3, 1 is green the other two are black. I probably better check that ive got it right since it seems to be such an important thing.
We took it off ages ago, we took it off for that reason, it doesnt "direct" much air in there at all and actually causes it too overheat, it breathes alot better without it. And its not the battery itself overheating that causes them to explode
