Just received the AUI/II/III cooling system recall in the mail.
It was pretty vague about an "improvement" to be done.

Anyone got any more info ??

I got mine just after new years....got it done pretty quick.
From what they told me its only drilling a slightly bigger hole in the thermostat...took about an hour...but the assholes made a mess of my engine bay,coolant everywhere..........and they didnt clean it up after i told them to when i took it in for service.....
so be wary of it....btw,i didnt notice any difference after that

Same here
It was done when the car was serviced last week.
But I never noticed any cooling problems what so ever before that, and no difference afterwards.
Now just wish they would fix my damn a/c/heater problems

Same here, but they ended up replacing the radiator on mine as well.

The annoying thing is that I can't get the crap they splashed around off the engine and surrounds.

The problem they are having with AU's is called Thermal Shock. Yes, they drill a ~2.5mm in the thermostat to reduce this problem, it's mainly on AU's with aluminum cored radiators, although it does effect cu/br ones too, just not as fast. Also, they will prbably bend down the top corner of the condenser side plate to get more air to the affected bits of the core. If u are unsure if ur car has been done by ford, one of the thermostat housing bolts will have a stripe of orange paint on them..

p.s It is poor work to leave coolant on ANY paint as it can damage to the paint. Always wash coolant of paintwork straight away!!

My dad has just bought a 98 AU1 Fairlane Second Hand, so he wont get the letter.
