Ford were sending letters out about a cooling system upgrade (i was sure there was previous thread, but cant find it.)

Does anyone know what they did for this so called upgrade???

yep drill a 2.5mm hole in thermostat and remove the jiggle pin.
bend down the top of the condenser.

what are these upgrades for? what problems were they supposed to fix? Our AUII had a 60k kms service recently and had a cooling system fix done (among about 10 others :\)

The hole in the thermostat is to let a bit of water through to equalise the temperature, so when the thermo opens, a sudden rush of cold water in the engine won't damage the head. This also causes the temp gauge to bounce up and down until everything equalises. A good reason to warm up the car before flogging it down the street.

Hmmm sounds like my XR6 may end up with this recall work. The bending of the condensor sounds like a real dodgy fix. But having said that i can't think of any part on the top of the condensor that can be bent.

I wouldn't mind seeing a picture of what they do.

I always warmup the car and drive gently for the first 10-15km until all is up to temp before i take it past 3500rpm.

the cooling system up grade on au falcons is to prevent thermo shock not to stop cold coolant rushing into the head and damaging it.what happens is the thermo shock damages the radiators .there are differnt bullintins for the xr6 xr8 and falcon on the xr6 and xr6 u still drill a 2.5 mill hole in the thermostat but u dont cut off the jiggler or bend the top of the condencer this applies to forte futura and fairmont as for bending the top of the condencer its a little lip about 10mm high bending it increases air flow to the top part of the radiator

Is this only for AU models or does it affect the EL as well ?
