Brand new door handles on my XF 2 months ago and I have central locking on the front doors. When I unlock the door using the remote central locking, the handles are sticky and you need to pull the handle 2 or 3 times to get the doors to open. The passenger side is the worst, it won't open at all, you need to pull the lock up from the inside of the car to be able to open it from the outside sometimes. And occaisionally it locks itself when you lift the door handles.

Any idea's?

Check the rods, they sound like they are bent. Take the door trims off, then sit in the car and have some play with the handles and watch waht happens, it will all make perfect sense, the rods can be bent by hand.
