the key barrel on my ea drivers side door is worn (funny style key)
it will lock but wont unlock, does any one know if these can be rebuilt, bought from ford or swapped for the passengers door

i dont think i will have any luck with ford since the locks are a 1nce off thing

will it be easier to get an alarm with remote locking

Mate, buy some new door locks to save having to use 2 different keys for your doors and ignition. You can get some new ones with keys between $45-$65 depending on who you see. I dont think Autobarn extends to Adelaide, but check you local automotive joint.

The Tibbe locks can be rebuilt easily and Ford used to sell an overhaul kit with new tumblers and I suspect they will still be available. You need to organise the tumblers to fit your key key and I don't know if the overhaul kits come with instructions; if not get a Ford Factory manual so you know how to correctly assemble them. If you go aftermarket your door and ignition locks will be different (and probably no cheaper than the Tibbe lock overhaul kit.

Ring a Ford dealer, new locks are pretty cheap and you can buy them to match existing keys.

I had an EA with the old style locks, it was stolen and ignition lock was destroyed so I had the whole lot replace with Tibbe'sm from memory the lock set (2 x door and 1 x boots) was only about $48 and around $100 with a new ignition barrel.
