Hi everyone,

Am interested in knowing if it is possible/easy to fit an alternator from an EA-ED falcon into an XF because i want a higher amp alternator than the standard 50A one. would the pullys slip and would it fit. my other option is to fit the 60A one that comes out of the fairlane.

any ideas

Is your XF carby or EFI?

If it is carby, I thought the EFI ones had the higher amp alternator...

Not sure about the earlier E-series, but the ED had a pulley to suit a flat belt with lotsa little grooves in it for grip. Although I believe you can retrofit an earlier model pulley (to suit a standard V-belt) the belt would then tend to slip and fail early. So I've heard anyway!

A better option would be to get one of the high output Bosch alternators from an auto elec. Although pricey, they do bolt straight in, and go up to 80 Amps output.

The Bosch replacement types go up to 120amps..

you can also get your original alternator rewound to produce a higher output...dont know on $$$ but means that you can use original brackets/pulleys/belt setup..

does the XF EFI 60A alternator fit in the carby models as a straight swap?? will there be a big difference over the standard alternator?

I looked into the bosch alternators for my XD and found the downfall of the high output ones is that they put out their quoted power at high-ish revs, auto elec said the stocker would even put out more current @ idle.

Ended up grabbing a 65 amp job out of a fairlaine, the sparky wired in the electric choke plug for $10 , never had a problem powering (or dimming) all the lights + ghia electrics + fair sized sound system ect.
