i just bought a el rocker assembly, and to look at it there are many improvements over the older ea one. The best improvement is a steel washer between the rocker pedastals and the rockers, which on mine has won into eachother quite a bit. And the pedastals themselves are quite a bit stronger looking, much more webbing, and thicker rocker arms across the top.
The lifter/tappet itself is smaller though, but the pivot at the bottom isnt held in a plastic cage like the ea, its pressed into the stainless housing.
for $100 for the rocker assmebly is much better than $40x12 lifters and a new front pedastal for the ea rocker gear!!

My Brother bent the valves trying to put later model Rocker assembly on my FairmonGhia so we said bugger it and put a complete EF 4.0L in instead much better.

I dont know if the EF were differnt from EL, but I have a mix of ef and EA rockers.

I guess it depends which EF Series. But an EL series rocker gear will not fit an EF Series 1.

I'm guessing an EA would be heaps different again. Ford have made subtle but worthwhile changes to the rocker gear right up to the AUII/III.

We later found out that the rocker assembly was off a development engine. The rockers had more lift than standard ones causing the valves to move down further and get hit by pistons, therefore bending all 12 valves enough to have no compression. We are eventually going to change head and put the engine into another car depending on the condition of the pistons.

I used a few ea ones with the ef ones to make a set that didnt tap. Although i still have one now thats tapping :(
