guys (again i know nothing about ford engines) does the EA 6cyl have OHC i think it does, any way my granddads makes a "slap" and "clacking" noise on startup for a bit then is gone.
Is this untill oil presure builds up? i gather its not direct cam to valve,

any info, it dont sound bad and were not worried just thought i'd ask anyway

I'd say it's the old tappets clacking away til they get some lube on em. Standard noise for the older engines. Maybe a re-tension on the tappets might be a good idea.

ahh yes i recall seeing the chain on a wreckers car (no head)

so it has rockers running off the cam?

tappets ? aint they only via push rods? or are these ohc setups also considered tappets?
or well its not doing any damage is it

Though they are ohc they are still hydro lifters so they could be R.S but an inspection of the whole valve train for clarence etc the reason for the rattles as clareace before oil pressure builds up in either the timing chain and or hydro lifters.These engine at high kmrs the bolt-tentioners fail breaking timing chain= piston and valve meeting.. Resulting in atleast a bent valve if you are lucky pluss other valve gear damage that caused it in the first place..
