Gentleman:
I was hoping to get some indication of acceptable fuel consumption figures for a CFI 3.9 wagon.
I have getting 18 lt /100 km (approx 420 km per tank)

Does this sound right ?
I have already replaced my MAP sensor.

The following is from Gregory's service and repair manual no.245
Fuel consumption:
L/100km L/100km
(city) (Highway)
3.9 Litre Engine:
Manual transmission 11.5 (city) 7.5 (highway)
Automatic transmission 13 (city) 9 (highway)
The fuel consumption information is based on tests made according to Australian Standard 2877. The actual fuel consumption obtained will depend on many factors including prevailing conditions, driving habits and the vehicles equipment and condition.

Many thanks for this, I actually have this book and the official Ford manuals (expensive !). I think I may have to replace a few more sensors before finding the root cause.
