EA Falcon, running rich, had ALL gas components taken off, fuel injectors cleaned, ultrasonically cleaned, Computer error codes found & fixed, oil, petrol, engine pressures checked & perfect, lifters replaced, tappets fine, regulary serviced. Makes a 'duh duh duh duh duh duh duh' noise @ start up particularly on cold mornings. NOT a lifter or tappet problem as car sometimes stalls a few times & has 2 have idles increased 2 run. Is NOT missing as is NOT jumping & lurching around & can be driven with ease but sick of difficult start up! Machanics TOTALLY STUMPED by problem as not doing it for them when taken in overnight. DESPERATE NOW PLEASE HELP! Jemma

Jemma,
2 questions.
1) do you put your foot on the accelerator pedal during startup?
2) do you just turn the ignition straight to start, or pause at ign on (one before start)

If you answered yes to both try this...
1) don't touch the accelerator during start
2) don't pause at ignition.

Try that. If your mechanic cannot replicate it it may be something you are doing.
Injected cars can be finnicky on how they are started.

If this problem is getting worse, and its not something you are doing, my first port of call is the coil lead, as they are the first thing to go.

Also note a blocked air filter will cause these symptoms.

No I dont touch the accelerator when starting the car and i wait until i've heard the fuel pump pressurize before I turn the caron.

ANYWAY - turns out it was my thermostat & temperature sensor continually telling my computer that the car was cold when it wasn't - therefore it was pumping too much petrol into my car and flooding the engine after a period of time.
