Does anyone know why it would be that my speedometer in my 1988 EA S Pack Falcon still works, but the odometer refuses to spin over!

A garage had to put a different size cog in it around 8 months ago, as it was travelling much faster than what the spedometer said it was going.

I'm wondering if the odometer and the speedometer are in some way connected as I was thinking about taking it back to the garage to check the cog out. I just think its kind of strange how, all of a sudden, its just stopped clicking over. :)
