EA running bad when hot

this has been happening the last 2 days with the warmer weather.....it runs great when cold but once it has fully warmed up it plays up a little at idle...
I have just changed the transmission and have only really noticed it after this...I read somewhere that if the computer has been reset than you should take it through its re-learning procedure and also take it for a SLOW drive so it can work out its fuel figures..
I didnt know this before the weekend so once the car was back together we took it for a hard squirt up the road...

I have noticed fairly bad fuel economy....(i know its a 3 speed now but its using more than most ) so I am thinking maybe it is running rich (?) which would explain why it plays up when warm at idle.....it kind of has a bit of a miss at idle....have checked water and oil...no sign of any mixing going on there...doesnt use any coolant or oil for that matter....it may be due for a new set of spark plugs soon though

any ideas?

Its definately not a blown head gasket......
I think I may have to reset the base idle as it only happens when in drive or reverse with the brake applied ( under load ) and its worse with the airconditioning on.
It sounds like it is idling a little low....is there anyway someone can type out the procedure? it would be greatly appreciated

you need to reset the computer, follow the directions posted in all the other threads on how to do it (its basically disconnect battery, pump brake pedal quite a few times to empty resistors and capacitors etc, reconnect battery with no ancillaries, start car, let it idle by itself for 10 mins, then go for a short drive in granny mode)

However, I have found that I can NEVER EVER get my computer to reset properly doing this, so I take it down to my local Ford guys who plug in their diagnostics GOD and reset it that way...works a charm, costs me 5 bucks. Simple.

ok just reset the computer....took it for a VERY slow drive etc...it was running fine until I got back home....As I was driving under the house it started playing up again and I could here a "rattle" coming from the front of the engine that I had never heard before.....its not like a jingling sound but more like a faint knock...
Im going to try resetting the base timing soon and see if that helps....if not I am going to replace the spark plugs and dizzy cap which are due to be replaced anyway...I'll also check all earths, wires, leads etc when it cools down under there

ahh thank god for that!
put her on the timing light and it was set at about 4 degrees BTDC.....kicked it back up to 10 and it runs sweet and takes off nicely!
doesnt even play up at idle with the aircon on in drive.....thank god for happy endings!
