EA's like any cars have their weaknesses... if its got high K's then you should look out for all the usual things on high milage cars ... mechanical wear..rust etc.
There were quite a few dodgy ones in the early days of the EA's but my theory is that this far down the track only the good ones are left..bear in mind.. it IS only a theory !
I quite like them as good cheap transport

If i were you, then maybe save a little more and get an EB. There meant to be built heaps stronger. I read somewhere that the roof of an EB can supposedly withstand 3000kgs.

And you can get some cheap EB's. I saw one earlier today for only $3,500. I know you can still get EA's for real cheap but i reckon the EB is a much better car.

Most of the probs with new EA's (rocker cover leaks, etc) have been sorted, but check the normal stuff.

EAs are ok, make good shopping trolleys or starter cars for young guys.

EA march (?) 1990 and on were virtually EB series 1 anyhow. Look for the 30th anniversary model which is a pretty good car. Only go for a multipoint efi though. Ours has done close to 300,000km and is running pretty good on original engine, and auto trans has done around 240,000km.

Cheap too! Get a half decent one for $2500-3500.

Talk about bad timing. The EA got a ride on a tow truck yesterday! Blown distributor - not cheap!
