G'day all

Ive got an eb series 2, and ive been having problems with the alternator.
First happened when stopped at a petrol station, and car wouldnt start at all, racv dude said it was the alternator..
Next day i got one from the wreckers, and it was playign up again still.. was charging sometimes and other times it wasnt..
SO brought that back and got an ED one from another wreckers.. this one seemed to work fine.. voltage jumped straight upto 14.5 after i stared the car.. now last night driving home.. the battery light came on.. but would go away when i accelerated pretty fast.. now i check the voltage now and it seems to be all over the place.. checked it one time and it was at 15.3 and another time after a 20min drive and it was at 12.6..
i dunno whats up with this... it seems to be charging but i dunno why the battery light is on..

any ideas?

Hmm, could be that the lead running from the battery to the alternator is loose, and that could explain the intermittant battery light. You would think it would be ok though considering you put a new alternator in.

Its not a brand new alt just 2nd hand but it seemed to work ok..

i checked the voltage now when the engines off and its at 12.6..
start the car and its up to 14..

when i turn to KOEO the battery light doesnt come on.. but when i start the car it does and stays on unless i rev it..

also somtimes when the car starts the light doesnt come on.. but if u rev it a fair bit it comes on??

Ok, ive tightened the belts to make sure thta wasnt the problem..
It seems strange.. the light starts to flicker then gets brighter with higher revs.. but it also stays on when in reverse..
I'm thinking it might be a short somewhere??

check the "alternator not charging" warning globe. it may be blown. the alternater will not function correctly without this circuit.

check your main earth strap to the block while you're there

is the alternator not charging light the same as the battery warning light?
cause if so it works.. cause it comes on sometimes..

the earth strap is fine not loose or anything

Hmmm not sure what has happened now, the alt light never comes on anymore at all, even when you turn the key.. and the voltage reading is at 15.2

maybe your globe got sick of flashing on and off all the time and blew up =P
