I'm thinking about getting a hold of a set of EB tail lights and an EB boot insert. Is there any reason the EB boot insert won't fit onto an EA? Like are the boot lids different at all? Also, how hard would it be to divert the reverse light wiring to the required position??
IMO, the EB back end is a lot more refined and A LOT better looking than the EA. I am also going to get an EB or even ED grille and put it on and fill the recess for the Ford logo beforeI spray my bonnet to the colour it's meant to be. I am afraid it going to be a completely different colour. I got the paint mixed to the correct colour code thats on the compliance plate (Z), but because of the age of the car, I'm sure the rest of it has dulled over the years. Oh well, I guess its got to be closer to the rest of the car than the current light blue
Chucking the the EB lights and rear garnish onto the EA boot is the piss easy bit. The hard part is the rewiring-the back of the EB tailights are different to EA ones and alot of rewiring needs to be done (I dont exactly what, but theres no cradle type system on the back of the EB lights as in the EA ones)
Have you considered just getting an EA monty Ghia garnish to dress up the back? or you could tint your rear lights, the EA lights look really nice tinted.
With reagards to the paint try cutting and polishing the rest of the car...for a closer match up with old and new paint?
Would it be possible (read easy) to bolt on the EB boot insert and leave the reverse lights wired up the way they are and wire up the new EB reverse lights as a light so you can see when your reversing and run it off a switch. Can higher wattage bulbs be put in being that they will only be run for short periods of time. Also is it legal to have the set of non working reversing lights. What problems could i expect from this. Just an idea im toying with .........
Yeah, what youre saying is doable (anything is really if you have the technical know how) but even just wiring up the new taillights so they work properly is enuf trouble, let alone creating a new system for the type of reverse lights u want, but where theres a wil theres a way...
i have a EA I fairmont GHIA with the EB fairmont GHIA back panel, i will end up gettin eb tail lights as the ea lights and the eb panel dont line up, mind you it looks alright from the back but side on you can see a big difference. And no you wont get hassled for having 2 sets of reverse lights i got pulled over and my car was gone over for defects and they didn't car that i had the EB panel as long as the reverse lights wern't hooked up. I guess you could hook the EB panel reverse lights up leave the EA lights disconnected
you could always go to a wreckers and get teh boot wiring off an EB and just splice it shouldnt be too hard i spliced a ZH Fairlane rear loom into a WB tonner once (my mate put ZH Tail lights on his tonners wood tray didnt look too bad actually)
Ive jst done that myself. To put the boot on You do have to change the tail lights,Fitting them isnt that hard if u have or know some one with a mig,all u have to do is cut out a plate and put it on the roadside of your tail lights which will pick up th 4th bolt on the eb lights;the tricky bit is to make sure you get them lined up properly otherwise the water will pool underthem creating rust.As for the wiring, its not that hard, when u get ur taillights, from a wrecker or however make sure u get the plugs that go into them.Simply cut off your ea plugs, strip the wires back and you will find the should have same colour code..As for your reverse lights you will find them in the main boot lumb which should B on the r/h side in front of the spare.Take a line up the lumb where your boot lock etc unplugs 4 your boot. You will need a different plug to pick up the EB lumbe that comes from the boot,so if you are not wire friendly,I sugest you take it to an auto sparky and get him to put the plug on 4 you...hope this helps chap because u will be stoked if it comes out as good as mine!!!!!!!!
