Hi people,
My folks EB Fairmont refuses to start, and I was hoping someone could offer some help. The engine turns over, but it won't start. I checked the battery, cleaned the terminals and checked the voltage, and they are all good.
The spark plugs look to be in good shape, as do the leads. How do i make 100% sure there is a spark coming through?

What else could it be, and how easy is it to check?

Stick your finger in the end of the lead while someone is cranking the engine to test spark.

HAHAHA! JUST KIDDING.

Take the plug out and earth it. If you can see a spark , good. No spark means working backwards. Check rotor button , leads and coil.

It is very common for the ignition module (grey thing on the side of your dizzy) to crap itself. This would cause your car not to start. Someone on here should have the voltages etc for testing it.

If there's one thing i've learnt in my life, it's not to trust people who say "stick your finger in this".

But thanks for the help. would it make a difference if this problem were intermittent? as in, one day it won't start, a few hours later it will, another day it won't start sort of thing.

those syptoms sound like smart lock issues.. is the LED flashing very fast?

Is smartlock standard? Cause they don't have remote central locking, or have an immobilizer fitted.
They have two standard ignition keys as far as i know, nothing more.

My father just called the RACV out as my mum will need the car tomorrow, turned out to be the fuel pump, most likely on it's way out. He hit the fuel tank a few times with just his hand while i was turning the key, got her going again.

Any ideas on what a new fuel pump costs? It's the 4.0 i6.
