just cleaning out the shed when i came across my std camshaft.I noticed just below the dizzy drive(bevel gear?) it has "GT" stamped into it. Does anyone know anything about this?

The Cobra and i'm not 100% sure of the G.T run 1:7 rockers so the cam profile was slifgtly different.Exaust esp. I think?? Kon...

I put my new cam in today, and when I took the old one out, I had a look on it - and it also has GT stamped on it...

Hey guys I'm not the V8 bible!

Cam pattern on XR8s up to recent was same as Mustang up to 95, hence the GT tag. They used 1.6 ratio rockers. Cobra cam uses 1.7 and is different because of the heads. More lift, less duration. You'll generally find the more efficient the heads, the "smaller" the cam.

And.. yes the Mustang GT is the base model Mustang in the States with the HO motor (HO =EFI only difference over stock 302 carb).

All EL series 2 and onwards are motors build for Explorers cause the Mustang got the 4.6 in 1996 :)`

Guys, you could get the 5.0L HO in the Mustang LX which was popular cause it weighed 400lbs lighter than the GT but with the same amount of power.

And HO did not mean EFI, in 1982 the 5L 'HO' was introduced with a 4barrel carb and a whopping 157Hp, in 83 it got 175Hp. 1984 it got EFI but with a lower HP rating of 165, but you could still get the 175Hp carb version (either version would have been nice in a XF).
1986 came the version we all know and love, with Sequential Port injection and 205Hp, and in 1987 it got 225Hp at which it remained at until 1994 which was reduced to 215Hp(??)

Whoops, the 4cyl LX was 400lbs lighter than the 5.0L GT, the 5.0L LX was only about 100lbs than the GT.
