***Still frantically searching hard drive for photos***

They matched up physically (I.e. everything lined up with everything else), but the color was a different story. I actually thought it matched really well, but as i was informed by my very learned girlfriend, my interior is a "warm" grey, where as the el interior is a "cool" grey.

RESULT: gf wins, and i still have my boring old EA door trims.

Ok, finally found pics (i realy should give my files more meaningful names than 'Picture_1024', etc.!!!)

Here's a couple of pics of my current door trims:

Here's the pics of the EL door trims (there's no window winder, and they aren't quit in the right position because i couldn't be bothered screwing them on, so they're just kinda hanging in place):

It goes straight on. Just put the metal rod through it, exactly as you do on the EA one. Even bolts into the same place.

The only slight difference was that , in the EL, the arm rest has a metal bracket under it, which the bottom of the little finger grip thingy in the arm rest screws to. I don't think this would be entirely necessary, though, but even so, just get the bracket from the wrecker, drill & bolt it to the door, just in case.

thanks heaps for that :)

just a few more questions,

whats the deal with the door lock? arnt the ones on the ef/el square? if they are how would i go about modifying them to fit?

also does anyone know roughly how much the ef/el fairmont ghia door trims (front and rear) would cost (both second hand and brand new)?

also anywhere around the eastern suburbs of melbounre where i could get second hand ones?

thanks heaps for the help :s2:

The EL's only have a door lock on the drivers door, so all of the others you can just remove. The lock and the drivers door is a direct replacement for the EA one, just take the EA button off, and put on the EL button.

Can't help you with the price second-hand, but I'm guessing it would be waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy too much to buy new.

Looks really good though, and I am suprised how wll the Door trim matches up with the dash !
Thanks, Xyphoid, although, I haven't put them on permanently, I'll probably do it eventually. The only reason I didn't do it was because my girlfriend didn't like it. But said girlfriend is now out of the picture, so I might head off to the wrecker. :s5

I just picked up a full EL Fairmont Ghia Leather interior today for $850 from a wreckers. The seats are all in mint condition, same with the door trims, Im going to put them all in tomorrow. Since i have an NA with power windows, I dont have that whole bother of trying to match up the window winders. I will take pictures of it once it is done, it should look alright, thanks for the inspiration of doin it though Thanatos, its a great idea!

i am definatly going to do this when i get my ea, the only thing i am worried about is the cig lighter in the rear doors, as the f/el dont habe this that whole assembly will have to be replaced, i would imagine that it wont be too much of a hassle, but some planning must be done before hand!

i recon if you have the two tone dash out of an EBII or ED they would match up spot on.
That's pretty much what I was thinking of doing. If I replace the bottom half of my dash with that of an EB2 or ED then it'll be that little bit lighter, and should (hopefully) match up with the trims a little better.

i can't wait to see the pics! And I'm honoured that I could be your inspiration. *blushes*

Thanks for the pics Thanatos (I must have missed this thread previously) it certainly looks great!

I have also heard that EF dash and seats fit in which would be the end of any worries with colour and shape matching.

For what it's worth, I intend to upgrade to NC or similar velour trims and seats - I'll then be able to retain my rear lighters too. :D

SVOGhia, from what we have discussed here, all E-Series cars are compatible one way or the other, including LWB models. Some fiddling may be necessary in some cases, though.

I've also heard that the dash, seats and console from EF/EL fit. Although, when looking at Dad's car, I'm not sure if it'd be all that easy. The dash would be a bitch to install 'coz the wiring looks very different. The seats appear to have SLIGHTLY different mounting points - one of the rear points sits higher, so a mounting block or something similar would need to be used to get it into an EA (which would probably require an engineer's certificate in order to comply with standards). And lastly, the console seems to be not as high, due to the larger transmission tunnel in the EL. I haven't actually tried any of this, so I could be wrong, but it looks like it'd be MUCH too much work!

if you have a read of a similar thread called EA interior, I have put my seats in. The seats are annoying, and can be fitted, but they dont exactly line up. The front seats need a mounting block/bracket made up on the corner nearest the tailshaft well, and a new hole will need to be made into the chassis to allow the opposite corner to fit properly, also the rear fold down seats have a different bracket. The difference is in the length, so the easiest way to fix this is to drill out the bracket on your old seats and put them onto the new seats, shouldnt be that hard. But it all comes down to if you have the determination and desire to do it. It isnt impossible, its just a bit difficult. But as they say, nothing worthwhile is easy
