My ef 6cyl has about 150,000 and I have just had the head gasket replaced and the head serviced.

ever since then I have had this ticking noise, which sounds like it is coming from under the car near the back of the engine.

I had the lifters replaced and the noise is still there.

it seems like it is only there when the engine is warm, cant hear the noise when its cold.

Possibilities,

Valve is the head?

Main baring?

exhaust leak from manifold somewhere?

let me know what you guys think?

Could be distributor. Sort of fast ticking noise on my mums EL (same engine as EF basically) sounds like it comes from rear left of engine compartment when ur driving. Other than that i dunno.

Ef's have a coil pack, El's have a dizzy..

Check for wear in your rocker shafts. Any axial movement will let oil pressure escape the rocker shaft instead of going to the lifter. if any wear is present you will need to replace the shaft as well as the worn rocker.

Look at the exhaust manifold for leaks...or listen when the engine is idling. My falcon made a clicking sound which was actually air escaping from the exhaust manifold gaskit....damn nuts vibrate off!

yeah i agree with trublu351, check the exhaust manifold bolts, seems logical as theyd have to have removed the manifold to remove the head, start with the cheap.easy stuff, then worry about main bearings etc if all else fails

yeah it happened only when hot on my escort, i guess as the metal heats up its expansion rate causes an uneven sealing surface, id nip the bolts up with the engine at operating temp and see how it goes

Had the same problem on my V8 - doing the bolts up on the manifold definitely seemed to cure it.
