EF V8 running very rich

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd see if you guys could give me any leads on a problem I've been having.

My car is running super rich, revving it up will blow loads of black smoke out the exhaust.... Its chewing fuel and it has lost power. 347 Stroker (Thanks mate!) put the diagnostic equipment on it, and got no codes (Except for ISC which is stuffed)

I don't know what else to look for, we will take the fuel pressure readings in the rail, to see if there is excessive pressure in the fuel rails or maybe a leaking or jammed injector. Other then that, I don't know where else to look.

Anyone have any ideas ? Any help much appreciated !

Its a EFII V8, almost cracked 150,000km on the clock.

I had similar problem, replaced MAP, oxygen, fuel reg and plugs and was fixed. The cause was the MAP sensor but decided to change the others while i was at it.Try testing these componnents

Three main culprits will be MAF sensor ,oxy sensors and ECT sensor.

do you have a K&N or similar type filter on??? If so, try cleaning the hotwire sensor inside the maf. These get gummed up with oil from the filter and cause issues with fuel mixtures. Also clean the throttle body and the ACT sensor whilst you're at it.

Hosed out the engine bay recently?

I did this, a few times when i first got my Nf v8. water can get into the distributor, make it run like turd and blow tons of black smoke. Spraying this water repelling crap fixed it, cant remember the name..

when i bought a new cap for the disributor it didnt leak anymore so dont have this problem now.

Most fault codes for sensors are "sensor out of range". If the sensor is within specs, no fault code will be logged. But that doesn't mean the sensor is sending the correct signal. With the MAF for example, if it is crapped up, it will send a legitimate, but wrong, signal to the ECU.
