About a year ago, I left a post about my 4.0L 5sp manual EF wagon not reving above 3500RPM. After putting up with this for a few years the problem was finally resolved recently. Turned out it was caused buy the cable between the speedo head and the ECU. In manufacture if there is not enough wire to make this cable they join two bits of wire by sending down high voltage burst to melt the two ends together. Anyway I am now having a ball blowing away boy racers (and quite a few crummydores) from the lights with my bog stock EF wagon.

The car is a Aug 95 build, I bought it in 99. No one wanted it because it was a 5sp :oo1: It was running great for about a year, then it wouldn't rev over 3500. I was told everything from a rooted ECU to buy a new engine. The first mistake I made was taking it to a Ford dealer, they had the car two days and all they could come up with was "We dunno". Now it's fixed it's like a new car. I might even give it a wash this weekend

two days... HA! That's nothing. Ford had my car for about 2.5 months if i remember correctly. Then I got the "We dunno". They were really good though... didn't charge me for the work and were enthusiastic and professional.
in my EF you can really feel the power come on between 3500 and4500, above that and the power drops off. I overtook a semi on the weekend, I was sitting behind him doing 80k, I changed back to third, reved it to 5000rpm, by then I was past the truck, so I changed to fourth, again reved to 5000rpm, then to fifth and backed off. I looked at the speedo, I was doing 160. Not bad for a bog stock wagon
