G'day,
Just a quick one, I'm sure I've seen a thread on this before but I'm buggered if I can find it in a search. So hopfully some one can remember how to do it. My cousin has an EL Fairmont ghia, and I have been telling him about the power mode that the auto has. I can't find how you program this, can someone tell me how to do this? I found threads for the AU how you press the brake pedel and put it in first or something. So am I right in saying that the EL has a simular programming mode? thanks in advance.

I think he is referring to the Adaptive Shift automatic transmission. You only get those type of transmissions in the XR's in the EL Series Fords.

My XR6 just has a power econ mode button and it's a 97.

This is a hardware switch, all it does is alter the speed at which the change-ups or downs occur. Like in economy it will shift from 1st to 2nd at 29kph, while in normal or power mode it will not shift from 1st to 2nd until 44 kph (That's a V8 at 40% throttle)

A V8 at WOT (wide open throttle) will change at these speeds;

I'm sure I've read about the setting of the boxes mode by a sequence of brake peddle presses and something about the dash displaying the mode that your in, thanks anyways but if anyone can remember please let me know!

I've got the Ford workshop manuals for EF/EL and there is nothing in them about that. The econ light shines in the dash when in econ mode, otherwise I dunno.

There is a learn mode for low idle problems, but that's nothing to do with the transmission.

I didnt think that the el had this feature within its tranny. If anyone knows about it and how to do it, i wouldn't mind giving it ago aswell!!
