EL Problemo

Hey All,

My mum drives a '97 EL Fairmont, and shes pretty happy with it except for some minor problems.

1) The power locks seem to be mucking up. Whenever we go to lock the door, they just go up and down like crazy. We push the key fob again and then the horn sounds and the locks go crazy again. Anyone else have this problem? How do I fix it. My mate's EF Falcon has this problem too.

2) Fuel guage and trip computer are tellin porkies. Fuel guage says the tank is full when the trip computer beeps saying we only have 5km of petrol left. Then 10 mins later it shows half tank whilst the other says its empty. The car has been converted to LPG but hasnt had any problems before.

Can anyone help or give advice???

-Rob :)

A mate of mine had the fuel gauge prob .It turned out the cheap fuel he had been using left a residue on the sender..A couple tanks of name brand fuel was all it took to fix it..

I cannot say too often how I had the same problem. It is one if two things.

1) the ef eries had a problem with the door locks, and the only way to fix it was to replace the locks with later model new ones

OR

2) The wiring in the "B" pillar on the passenger side is prone to corrosion, as this is where the runoff fron the roof goes. Check your electrical connections in the "B" pillar.

Of the two options, I would check the wiring first.

The esiest way is to take the front passenger seat out
, you will need special tool for this, takes about 5 mins, and then remove the seat belt and then the trim. The wiring is located low in the pillar. The "B" pillar is the one between the two doors.
