EL Question

I dont know much about my mums EL (cuz i drive my xf) but since she bought it the RH tailight and LH headlight are always either not working or the headlight stays on the parker strength......

Its one of the first EL (96) WTF is goin on. i change globes in it and a week later their gone. Is something overcharging the globes or is this typical of el's. Ive seen quite a few el's around that have the same problem....>!!!

Could be bad ground maybe, or a lose connection, i had that problem, my bulb was loose, fixed it up .. jiggle it a bit, check yoru connections, get a test light etc see if its all good

otherwise make sure your not puttin gover 55w bulbs or theywill blow as well!

anything over 55 watt globes in an EF/EL will melt the polycarbonate headlight lenses

I had a similar problem with my EF Fairmont Ghia. My right hand tail-light would either stay on Park when the brake was depressed, or sometimes just go out all together. I changed the bulbs and it would work for a while and then happen again.

I discovered that the problem was that the small groves in the side of the bulb mount which hold the bulb in position had worn up too high, meaning the bulb was sitting too high and not contacting properly. I fixed the problem by buying a new taillight wiring loom from the wreckers - cost me $30.

dont touch the glass on the headlight bulb EVER - its not actually glass its quartz, and absorbs the oils/salts etc from your skin and will blow very soon after instalation if you touch it.
