I thought that the ECU Controlled when the thermos came on... There would be a Temp sender, and that sends the temp to the ECU which has a pre-set temp to turn on the thermos..
(I could be wrong, but i am 99.9999% sure i am right)
apparently that 'sensor' is hooked up to a relay that switches the fans on or off. also that black outlet housing is apparently from an EL... but i dont see where after looking at some pics and our AU (obviously a little different but hey). is it from a v8 maybe?
I have done some more research and it seem the EF had a different thermo setup the EL's, and it seems that the EL's do use a seperate switch and a realay to control the thermos going on and off.
however i still cant figure out where that housing came from.... anyone got any ideas?
might have to go look through a catalogue somewhere.
That looks like the V8 setup in the pic, relays were probably added, as Ford tend to that alot, release a great idea, then find it needs extra power so put in relays in later models as running changes.
The EF thermos had a dual speed fan, and one full speed fan and were controlled form the ECU from the temp switch, the EL just had one speed fans and worked the same way, with whatt appears to be added relays to switch power to the thermos, but only one temp siwtch.
I believe Rob has EL ECU in his EB with thermo fans, he did not add an extra temp switch, just loom wiring to control the fans, the ECU does the rest.
(I could be wrong, but 99.99% sure I am not)

The EL definately has multi speed fans too, you can hear them when they kick into high!
