Ok Guys, I desperately need some recommendations for future mods for the ole XR8 . . .
( a mate's just gone and bought a ba xr6 turbo, and being outpowered is *NOT* an option !

)

Soooooo . . . I'm figuring forced induction is the way to go, and am looking at a capa vortech 10 psi kit . . . .

Currently I'm thinking: roller rockers, cam, headers + zorst, and some gt-p's ( is an EL1 (and auto ), so has the bodgy heads ) . . .

So i guess the questions are:
1. Recommended upgrades before the kit ( are my plans ok ) ?
2. Will extractors for the old heads be compatible with the newer gt-p's ( ala el2 / au's ) ( I *think* they are, but not sure ) ?
3. Should I be looking at any different styles of extractors from normal aftermarket XR8 ones, given the plans of supercharging ( i.e. do i go bigger ? and will this cause problems fitting them *before* i charge it ? )
4. Continuing the exhaust q's, should I be going much/any larger diameter piping ( again cause of charger )
5. Is chipping a requirement for charging ? I would rather not chip if i can avoid it . . . .

Anyways, I'm open to suggestions, but would like to keep the costs down if possible ( i.e. would rather not do maf's etc unless its fairly important . . . figure i can always add on xtra bits later to try to squeeze more power if i'm feelin greedy ).

I guess finally . . can ppl recommend any good mechanics & zorst shops in the sydney area ?

Pacemaker or genie headers will fit both stock heads and GT-40P's but for the P's you will need to get some new spark plug leads with 90 degree ends.

NA cars usually run 1 5/8" primaries on the headers while stroker or supercharger setups run 1 3/4" primaries.

If you are going to supercharge and get GT40P heads, you may want to get some work done on the heads to reduce the compression. The P heads have a smaller combustion chamber and with stock pistons will raise the compression up to around 9.5:1 which is a bit too high for 10psi. A good machine shop should be able to bring it down to under 9:1.

The CAPA kits come with a unichip which you will need.

One final thing, EL2's didn't have GT40P's, only AU on.

If I was you, just get an exhaust system and a set of 3.9lsd gears, because if you gonna bolt on a blower, dont bother doing any head work yet till you buy the blower, otherwise you might do headwork and it might raise comp which is no good.

OH and there is a guy apperently selling a powerdyne blower kit off an AU on the forums for around 3-$4000 mark, thats not a bad price, but if I was you I would source a blower and make all the other things your self it would work out cheaoper than buying a kit, go vortech though they produce more boost.

Good luck if you'r going to make some power with the std maf!! It's the smallest part in the whole unduction system..
BTW I'm running 7Lp and cant get traction in third[Dunlop 245/45x17's / 3:27 lsd f/d] while flooring it with turbo's so be carefull going big on boost..Though turbo's are different...

Ported track heat head & inlet, fms cam 220 @50 / 498 lift.93 Cobra Mustang throttle body and eec, maf, 36 Lp injectors.
www.liverpoolexhaust.com.au exhaust manifolds supplied i/c and other induction pipes, inc 3" dump pipes from turbo's which are located left side near power steering on the other side nr battery/ alternator.Battery has gone to boot.All the pipes including the cold ones are ceramic coated.At pressent it's getting an alloy header tank made up due to turbo that side. Will be fitted on top hose with rad cap and return lines from water cooled lines from turbo's.Then its off to dyno and an ems/[Motec maybe$$] ecu fitted..At pressent I can't believe the torque it has and how quick the turbo's spin up and keep going to six easy...Due to the injectors it won't run with maf so its running without so guess a/f is around 9 heaps rich!!! I'll get some shots of it but I'm too dumb to work out winzip!!! etc...
Oh the heads were originaly for a blown, stroked 351w but he never came to pick em up so I bought them with all the good gear, possibly too big for 302 but came into its own now.
