You reckon thats bad, i'm using Mobil 1 10w-30 fully synthetic exactly what the AUII/III Inline 6 specifies and it's costing me $82.00 for 5 litres. So far the oil has proved to be very good in both heat and cold.

Thick Oil makes your engine last longer, don't believe the propaganda.
I don't see Craig Lowndes car running on 10W-30 oil, V8 super car oil is like 100W-80. Synthetic Oils are meant to be better because they have less contiminates, so try and get the thickest synthetic oil you can.

But Craigs engine is not your street car engine either. The tolerance in the engine would be waaay different from race engines than road. The fact teh engine gets stripped down after a few races is a big contrasting difference to a road engine capable of doing 400,000km without a rebuild.
Someone posted here that on AU's if you use thicker oil you can have a chance to stuff up the oil pump as the km's rack in which can be a disaster. Also keep in mind that the AU engine was so heavily revised from the the E Series.

411,000ks on Valvoline Lo-Vis 10w-30 at $20 for 5 litres and never needs to be topped up between services nothing wrong with thin oil in the right motor. If you put thick oil in an AU start saving for a new motor
