Re: engine

Have a look for a good motor from an 86 on XF - then you get the ULP motor!

Don't know about the 4sp - but in theory, it should be okay, although I'd be looking for a 5sp.

Re: engine

4 speed will be fine. i recently converted my XF to a 4 speed, which came out of an XE. they are pretty much the same except for the first gear ratio. i think the XE is about 3.00:1 while the XF is 3.50:1. i used to have a 5 speed XF and to tell you the truth i don't think it is worth the extra dollars unless you do a heap of highway driving. even then it still wouldn't bother me, just means you don't need to change gears to overtake. anyway, that's just my thoughts. if you're interested, cost me $600 for the manual conversion, that included everything. good luck finding everything.

Paul.

My XF: 4.1 carby, genie extractors, 2 1/4 exhaust, 4 speed, lowered, tinted windows, body kit, spoiler, mags + other stuff

Currently missing a set of splits and my gear knob as some bastard stole them! Damn thieves!
