ok for my meteor i've got i'm going to need an engineers report my cousin wa doing it up and changed the drum brakes on the rear to vented discs and the had make a braket and weld on to fit it properly.... just wondering how much one would cost roughly and what type of engineer etc??? (i might know someone)
you will need to get an RTA approved engineer to pass it. You can find out who they are from your local RTA office.
Should cost about $200 for them to inspect and give you a report.
If you have modified the original function of your car, in this case different rear brakes, you need to get an engineer to certify that they meat australian saftefy regulations and that the job has been done properly and safe for everyday road use. To do this you need to find an engineer that the RTA will accept reports from. There fore you need to go to your local RTA and find out what engineers are RTA certified, and where they are in the world. You then take your car to them, displaying the modifications that you have done, and they will test the car and inspect it to make sure it meats all required rules and regulations. Once he has done this, you will be issue with an engineers report, stating that the modifications made to the vehicle are sound and safe for road use. You then take this report to the rta, and they will pass your car for registration, as long as you also have a valid pink slip and blue slip if needed.
This report that the engineer does usually costs about $200 for a simple thing like this. It can get up to around $1000 for heavily modified cars, with engine transplants outside factory regulations, as they have to do stress tests on engine mounts and the suck like.
Hope this is english enough for you.
If not, contact your local RTA and ask for info on engineering your car.
I have an old Ford Prefect ute shell, gonna build it a chassis to take Jaguar IRS and disc fronts, 4L six and a t5, plus Recaro seats and an aftermarket dash, gonna have to lengthen the engine bay to fit and will also extend the tray.
Hehe well I won't even look at the thing for the rest of this year most likely
But when I start I think I'll do a little research.
Basically was just looking for a laugh (see? See how desperate I am for friends? See what you have brought me to mum!!!)
Don't reckon the cops'd know the difference anyway, am not rodding it so they probably won't care as long as there's doughnuts strapped to the front
