Fan no go!

My old man has just picked himself up an old 1991 eb fairmont from a car dealer mate for an absolute steal price of $2000.

The problem with the car is the fan on the climate control. The fan appears on the lcd, and it clearly shows it moving from high to low etc etc. But it aint turning the fan over!

Is this a simple blown fuse or blown fan! Ive got a spare fan from the ED so is it just a simple swap over! Anyone had this problem or got any links to other discussions?

------- UPDATE --------

Ok,

Ive had a quick look at the car this morning, and it turns out that the fan for the climate control had been discconected.

Re-connection of the fan, started it going, but without any pressing of buttons on the climate control. The bloody thing even spins when there is no key in the igntion.

Could this be a suspect FAN SPEED CONTROLLER, any ideas?

------ Another Update --------

Ive pulled the fan speed controller out, and it seems to be really corroded by leaves stuck in the fan box? I tried to clean up the box with a bit of CRC and TLC but still the same drama on re-connection.

I rang up ford, they want $230 for the box, thats a laugh!

i had a similar prob on my EA, does your fan work on high speed, but not on any of the lower speeds? not sure if its the same but there was a little bi-metal strip which acted a bit like a fuse, so if it overheats it turns the fans off, if you bend that a little you can get it to touch and the fan will work on the lower speeds...hopefully its the same as my old EA S and you can save your self a few hundred $$$'s

Try maybe an aircon parts place or coventry's if you have them where you are, that stocks jayair brand parts ,they make a lot of the original a/c parts anyway.
I did a heater core on a VR commodore a while ago.holden price..$192, coventry price for jayair core was $94

----------- SORTED -------

In the end it was the fan speed controller!

My old man bought a second hand one and a new set of carpets for his car out of the quokka for $50 for both!

I put the controller in sat night after work and it worked straight away!

Re: Fan no go!

I'm having a problem with my fan as well. On the lower speeds, the fan rattles and stutters and only on high speed will it work, and even then it's incredibly loud.

Where is the fan speed controller located?
