my ea fairmont has one fault and that is a flashing
coolant level light in the instrument display panel.
however the coolant is full and the warning light still
flashes even when disconnected? what is going on?
The filler bottle for the radiator has a float in it. This float is probably broken, or has a cut wire. Change this, or fix it, and the red flashing light should go away.
it is definitely not a low windscreen washer fluid light
that is flashing as it is red and yes the tripcomputer does beep but i have taken out the float and checked
it for loose wiring and cleaned it but it is still happening.
The "Flashing" is caused by an open circuit along that sensor's wiring. If the sensor is connected properly, then there may be a broken wire somewhere.
I had this same problem, and it was cause by the wire corroding and breaking, just as it came out of the sensor.
Don't know if this is relevant, but I recently noticed my coolant light flashing after a 900km drive in my ED. I soon noticed it was only happening on left hand curves while under acceleration. I flushed my system, drained it, topped it up correctly with a good quality fluid (it was down just a touch) and havent had the prob since. I had a bit of weight in the boot as well and i think the combination of sitting low at the back and slightly low coolant level, along with the sloshing around at *cough* fairly high speed, and some crap in the bottle may have caused it. Probably a different problem altogether, but just thought it worth mentioning.
As simon said , it could be the float has broken and filled with coolant. You could try taking the sensor out and sealing it up...
