Ford Escort Estate Keys

I have inherited my dead Brothers 97 Escort 1.8 Zetec Estate, but the only key I got was a Black Ford key. This has a push button in the centre with a little torch bulb facing into the lock,It also has a light brown or orange square facing out away from the lock. The key operates the central locking and starts the engine, but i dont know if it works the immobiliser and I keep reading about coding and recoding, without fully understanding Please tell me will I need any other keys eventually, also will this key wear out? And where can replacements be obtained Any advice apreciated.

Re: Ford Escort Estate Keys

If you are talking about PATS, no escorts were made with this system, at least not in the U.S. Sounds like it is just the alarm system. Not sure if it is factory or aftermarket on your car.

Smile Re: Ford Escort Estate Keys

Thanks Fonz
It appears that for the UK I require 3 keys 1x Red and 2x Black, the red one containing the coding and this is used to code the black keys via the ignition switch. I was hoping that someone had managed to change the system to make it easier.
