I have check all the wiring and light bulb and down to the switch in the gear box. when i take the switch off the gearbox and push the button in my reversing light works but it dont work when the switch is in the gearbox and in reverse. i have my MOT next month and would like to get this done.

what could it be, and what do i need to get the light working

i'd guess whatever pushes on the switch in the tranny has worn out or fell apart. could run the wires up near your shifter and attach them to a toggle switch, you have to put the lights on yourself but it beats digging into the tranny just for that.
