Ive got a reasonable question.
I was given a spare key when i bought the ED and along with it came a tag with a code for a new key if i needed one.
Ok no dramas and according to the workshop manual the smartlock module reads the info sent from the ignition barrel allowing the EEC to fire a spark.
So out of interest today i got a key cut from a joint in the Belmont Forum, got home inserted it & whatta ya know.. The car fires up no dramas.
I thought these keys were electronically coded???.

The first Electronically coded keys were used on the AU updates that were fitted with "Smartshield". Smart lock keys arent electronically coded.
