Nah, don't hink we can help here - it is a FORD forum! That commodore sounds like it runs like any other commodore, so I don't really understand the problem. lol.

I would look at you Idle Speed Control Solenoid. The thing at the butterfly that allows airpast the butterfly and therefore allows the car to idle. The usually get full of carbon and don't work to well. Take it off, clean it with carby cleaner and a toothbrush (do not return toothbrush), replace it and see how it goes.

Well.....I can't, and you can't (otherwise you wouldn't have posted the question), so that makes WE can't! BTW, there was a chuckle on the end there - if you didn't get the joke, sorry.
If you want a really serious answer, read on.
Fact is, even if it was a Ford I couldn't help. Diagnosing mechanical problems on a forum is problematic at best. Would be far easier to take it to a mechanic, I would have thought.

Nah really, wat gets rougher - the gear shifts? is it an auto?
or just the idle speed?
as for the computer, try the way we do ours, d/c the battery for 10 mins or so, then let it relearn while idling

Don't know if you've fixed your bombadore yet, but if not, try checking your coolant temperature sensor, a bad sensor could cause the car to run richer and richer as it warms up.
he was having another go at it this weekend so i'll pass it on as well. thanks a lot for your help, and yes the wise cracks about buying a holden are flowing fast :)
