I've noticed on my car if I rev the motor up when it's cold, there is backfiring occuring in the exhaust. I've got a feeling this is because the fuel pump is not supplying enough fuel for the job and therefore the engine isn't burning it properly at higher revs.

So it looks like I'm going to have to get a new one, can someone tell me roughly what options are avalable fuel pump wise for the EA's? Do the XR6 or XR8 fuel pumps have anymore pressure/flow then the standard ones and what are the cost of these? Cheers

i highly doubt that it is anything fuel related, if you can hear it burning in the exhaust its more likely spark related, make sure the plugs/leads/rotor/dizzy cap etc are all in good nick.

having said that, rememeber that fuel and air dont like burning in a very cold environment (ie a cold motor) and it takes a little longer, possibly continuing to burn in the exhaust (or if one plug as not fired then the unburned fuel will burn when it hits the flame front of another cylinder)

so unless its bad, ie noticeable when driving the thing, i woudnt worry about it.
